Men vs Women drivers – as discriminatory as it might seem, male drivers are usually viewed as riskier than females. If a male and a female of the same age with the exact car and exact driving record were to apply for auto insurance with the same company, female would get a lower rate. This factor may only be true for younger drivers, as different criteria’s weight in more with age.

Date of license issue – studies by universities, government and insurance companies, along with accident statistics show that experienced drivers are less likely to cause an accident that less experienced drivers. Insurance companies may give price breaks to drivers with many years of experience under their belt.

License suspension by police – you can be sure that the insurance premiums will go up if the police suspend your driver license.  Driver license is only suspended due to violation of the law, which is never a good thing, especially when it comes to car insurance.

Driving Violations– Drivers who speed, do not follow signs, violate traffic and break other rules, are far more likely to get into a car accident.

Car alarm – it is obvious that a car with an alarm is harder to steal than the one without.

Your parking spot – insurance companies may give you some points if you park your car inside at a secure spot, since it has less chances of being stolen.

Keep in mind that factors listed above, and those that are not listed, are all combined together to give an overall picture to the insurance company. One factor alone may not affect the rate much; however combined together they can change insurance rates greatly!
